Welcome to the online home of Leeds University Union Women’s Hockey Club.
Club Captain 2011/2012 – Ruby Kirby
The club is based at the University of Leeds Weetwood Playing Fields. For the 2011/2012 season we will have 6 teams competing in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) competition, 1 side competing in the North Hockey Women’s League, 5 sides competing in the Yorkshire Hockey Association and 1 development squad competing in the University of Leeds intra mural division. We have over 100 club members and in terms of number of competing sides we are the largest student hockey club in the country.
In 2007 the University of Leeds recognized Hockey as a performance sport and began a programme of investment in the future of University Hockey.
Hockey in Leeds is fantastic. Not only do we have six teams which caters for all standards, from beginners to the elite, great training sessions and coaching staff, but we also know how to have a LOT of fun aswell! So please don’t be afraid to come and get stuck in!
In addition to Hockey the club has a busy social calendar. The club organizes a Christmas Meal, the end of year Hockey Ball, as well as regular Wednesday night social events.
We are always looking for new members of any ability, if you would like to give hockey a try look out for us at freshers fair for details on trials, attend one of the training sessions, come to our hockey give it a go or alternatively email luuwhc@live.co.uk for more information.
LUUWHC is more than just a club, its a society that provides opportunity to play a sport that you love, or one that you have never tried before! whislt making life long friends along the way.
“Joining the Hockey Club was the best thing i ever did at Uni. I had only played in P.E and was never very good, but i have improved through dedication and enjoyment. I made some of the best friends i will ever have in the club and will never forget the ‘Leeds’ chant. I feel so proud to represent the club and look forward to fulfilling new aims and aspirations the next coming year.” Ruby Kirby, Club Captain 2011-2012.
