Mountain Hut
Each September the Dossers orgainse a trip to the University’s accommodation (a hut/barn with bunks) in the Lake District. It is basically a week of running and drinking, though if you are unable or unwilling to run there is normally a good walking group too. On Tuesday we run to the coast, spend the day in the pub and get a minibus back.

The mountain hut trip runs Friday to Friday and usually takes place in the first half of September. The ‘Hut’ is a University owned facility at Dale Head, Duddon Valley, Lake District. (Grid Ref: S.D.241006). The week is filled with a variety of running and non-running – an average day begins early with a low-level half hour jog, followed by an awesome English breakfast with thick doorsteps of crusty bread. Then it’s time for the long main run, a shorter run, or walk or a stroll to a waterfall or pub. After rehydration at the Newfield Inn, there’s time for a dip in the river and the traditional bridge-jumping for those brave enough, soup and sarnies and a doss around for a while before top quality veggie nosh cooked for two dozen. The day is usually finished off back at the pub for a pint or two.
Tuesday generally involves a long run out to the coast and an afternoon in the pub for a pint (or 5(+)). Traditionally in Drigg, recent years’ festivities have, and will continue to take place in Ravenglass. A little south of Sellafield, there’s only a little bit of radioactivity. And everything is good for you in moderation…
This year the trip runs from 9th to 15th September.
